The MAWSS Plan:

Safe Water and Controlled Recreation

MAWSS is planning a new recreational model that protects drinking water while offering safe public enjoyment.

What’s Included:

  • A privately-operated, on-site rental facility for kayaks & fishing boats that never leave the reservoir.

  • Shore-based recreation, including picnicking, a covered pavilion & bank fishing

  • More land and water access than ever before — expanding from ~700 acres to up to 1,800 acres

  • Increased open days — from 3 days/week to 5 days/week

What’s Not Allowed:

  • Private boats or trailers

  • Any watercraft entering from other waterways

Why This Approach:

  • Experts from municipal water engineering, ecology, and Homeland Security unanimously found Boat-based invasive species risk is the #1 preventable threat

  • Existing wash stations cannot guarantee full protection

  • Prevention is far safer and cheaper than chemical treatment

  • This plan lets families enjoy the lake — without putting drinking water at risk.
