Converse Reservoir – also known as Big Creek Lake – provides drinking water for more than 350,000 people across Mobile and Baldwin Counties. It supplies our homes, schools, hospitals, and businesses with award-winning water – some of the cleanest and best-tasting in the country.

This resource is precious.
It's also vulnerable.
In recent years, highly-invasive species like Giant Salvinia were discovered on the reservoir, likely introduced via private boats.
The threat of additional species — especially zebra mussels, which have devastated water systems nationwide — show the importance of protecting our water for our families – not just now, but for generations to come.
Through the MAWSS plan, we can eliminate invasive species risk pathways while still providing low-impact, carefully controlled recreational access for local residents.
